We’re taking our Art Adventure, Studio, and Mini’s classes to the Met this week! Its all about exploring all the different art movements, forms, processes and cultures that the museum has to offer while creating fun and exciting art projects ….in front of famous ART!
This adventure brings us to a few spots @ The Met:
The art of Africa with our 5-7 year old classes, which also coincides with our in-class project inspired by the Adire Eleko textile Art of Yorubaland!
The Modern Wing with our 2-4 year olds classes, exploring color, shape, and line!
and some new exhibits just opened with our older Studio class!
We can’t wait to see what our Art Adventurers create at The Met! Stay tuned.
In the meantime, see some past Museum Tours with CCA HERE!
The Holidays and 2017 flew by with so much art at CCA! We have a lot to be thankful for… Wishing everyone a great start to 2018 and may it be filled with exciting new Creative ADVENTURES! CLICK HERE for 2018 SPRING NEW classes & tours!
Happy Art-making in the New Year!
We have taken much inspiration from artists of both past and present recently! Using multiple paper materials, model magic and even recycled products, our adventurers created face sculptures as inspired by french contemporary artist, Junior Fritz Jacquet (check out his work HERE) and silly “Pop Art” masks as inspired by Roy Lichtenstein!
There is a lot of feedback on how to do this, but the best way that takes the least time is to hire a professional! Armed with more than pencil and paper, CCA tours engage and enlighten with myriad materials…. And show how to do it on your own. For more info on taking your little one: http://arts.gov/art-works/2014/preparing-children-art-museums
CCA tip: Make it a Child-Directed trip- Ask these questions about each piece they are drawn to:
What materials is it made from?
How do you think they did it?
Guess what the artist was thinking when they made it?
What do you like?
What do you not like?
How would you make your own version?
If you’re nervous about bringing more than a pencil & paper, make a list of what your child needs to make their own version, go together to get the supplies and follow it up at home.
Imagine how excited they will get about art. And the interest they will have on their next visit!
And for lending us your trust, becoming self-confident individuals, working together and having incredible ideas with which to work! We celebrate your uniqueness, your effort, focus and of course- sense of humor! Have a great summer.
New York City is an amazing resource for modern and contemporary art! As a fine artist, as well as an art teacher of children for 15 years, I have found the question, “What is Art?” a never-ending one. Hence my goal- to demystify artists and their processes in language children can understand and adults can use. Art-making is full of choices, which builds a stronger child having made them. I founded Claire’s Creative Adventures over 12 years ago to explore the processes of artists which children may encounter in museums, galleries, or on a walk and to have the tools to decipher and imagine what the artists are thinking. Developing these critical thinking skills and imagination is paramount to a well-rounded child who may approach all of their endeavors with such joy and confidence as they do art!
Becoming a learner with your child can be a stimulating experience! In these workshops and tours, adults learn age-appropriate art language and directed questions as well as techniques artists use to create.

Check out the slideshow below, to see how it was done. Some students are already working on their next city dioramas at home!
(We love it when parents become learners with their children:) Way to go Mariella!
And a great big THANK YOU to Cliff!
